What’s a girl to do on a beautiful Thursday evening that promises to
be one of the most exciting all year in terms of fashion, shopping, and
celebrities? Why, grab a pair of heels, some hot dates, and head straight for
the midst of the action of course! This is exactly what I had in mind for last
Thursday’s madness that was TIFF + FNO + Holts 175th anniversary
celebration.

My dates and I started out the evening early by loading up on some
carboliciousness at Cafe Nervosa and were delighted to see that people had come
out in their full fashionable force for these events (and that some of them ate
carbs too!). Stomachs full and energized for the (monetary) expenditures to
follow, we made our way over to Holts where a crowd had already gathered for
Hot in the City, the 175th anniversary event. In addition to the
colourful visuals being projected onto the storefront, balloons, confetti, and
a serious sound system installation created an exprience that was somewhere
between a crazy dance party and a Nuit Blanche exhibit. As if partying in the
street wasn’t cool enough, the girls at the Diet Coke lounge kept us refreshed
with chilled limited edition Holts Diet Coke while we munched on pink (!)
popcorn.

Shiny lights led us to one of Holts mobile tour popup shops which
was set up on site. Deciding to take the ramp in heels almost granted me my own
Carrie Bradshaw moment whereby yours truly takes a very un-ladylike dive to SplatLand..
Luckily the line started moving just in time for leftover inertia to save me
and we were rewarded for braving the perilous side entrance with a close look
at limited edition commemorative designer sweatshirts that will be making their
way around the country.
The party continued inside Holt Renfrew with shoppers
ogling/trying/purchasing all the limited edition anniversary goodies as well as
taking advantage of the 20% back gift card promotion on almost anything in the store!
While I was only planning to appreciate the heavyweight shoe collabs by Jimmy
Choo, Louboutin, Valentino, and Manolo from afar, I ended up leaving with
actual weight in a shopping bag – all 645g of the L’Orangerie candle. This NEST
candle was exclusively designed for Holts by Sir Elton John and David Furnish
with all proceeds going to the Elton John AIDS foundation and smells absolutely
divine. Considering that the money went towards a good cause while my house
gets to smell great for months to come, I walked away a very happy camper.
