Event: Hudson Collection at Holt Renfrew!

Hudson jeans debuted in 2002 and quickly garnered a dedicated celebrity following and a reputation as the sexy fitting jean. With a multitude of fits for both men and women, it's no wonder Hudsons are considered a closet staple, optimizing comfort without sacrificing aesthetics. This Saturday, Hudson will be officially launching the Hudson Collection - the first collection to include high end tops and jackets as well as denim from the influential brand! Make sure you stop by the Bloor Street Holt Renfrew location between 1 and 4 pm to get an exclusive first look at the collection (and gorgeous Elite models sporting select looks).

Celebrity fans like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Jessica Alba, and Rihanna have been sporting Hudson jeans for years - this is your chance to see first hand what they love about the products!

Easy Style: After the Rain (or "When to Give up")

They say to never give up - perseverance is the answer to all of life's challenges. Allow me to elucidate the exception to that rule! Say you really love summer like yours truly. You have a really hard time letting go of the great times, the sunshine, the laughter - and skirts. So you figure, 18 degrees isn't bad.. for Toronto, that's May-June weather! You wait for the rain to stop, dress summery, and bravely take a step outside..

(tank, Marciano; skirt, Change Me in Europe; belt, H&M; necklace, Guess; flower hair clip, H&M; bangle, Social Butterfly Boutique; sandals, Alter in Europe; purse, Winners)

You would be right to think that I ran right back inside - but it was worth a try! Don't they also say you miss 100% of the shots you don't take?

In summer withdrawal,

T

From the Expert: Fall Fashion

Our collaboration with the styling expert, Claudia Da Ponte, kicks off during a new season. This of course leads us to ask: What should we be wearing for Fall?

Claudia describes this seasons looks as luxurious and minimalistic. Here are a few of the trends to watch out for:

1. Camel is the new black. Camel coats are huge this season.

2. The military style jackets are still in.

3. Fur - Claudia recommends vintage or faux.

4. Tailored looks. The pantsuit is the new uniform.

Dr.Martens Spring/Summer 2011 Preview

Set to dominate the spring fashion scene are these lightweight pieces in fun colours and new designs from Dr.Martens for Spring/Summer 2011 and we have your sneak peek!

(we both immediately went for these - the styling options are endless! the unlined laser cut outs on these 14 eye boots let you play with texture and colour to your heart's content)
(at $130, these are first on our list of must-buys for spring - elegant tan wedges for every occasion)
(flirty florals)
(leopard is hot.. clogs are hot.. these Docs are flaming!)
(unisex brogue inspired shoes)

Everything about this collection screams spring (and for us, "Buy me!"). The emphasis on a few of the more feminine styles is on a slimmer sole, a comfortable heel (wedge or Diva), or trending prints (florals and leopard). We're thinking these will be perfect for pairing with a flirty dress or coloured tights come spring. SS2011 will also include a unisex collection of brogue-inspired shoes and a mainline release of Jean Paul Gaultier's cut out design collaboration. The Gaultier boots will be produced in both white and black 8 eye model by Dr.Martens for SS2011 as an equally stylish but more wallet-friendly option for fans of both labels.

Toronto fashionistas will be able to purchase the SS2011 collection at Dr.Martens on Queen sometime in February. They're sure to sell out quickly so we're keeping our credit cards handy and ready to go..

Spotlight: Dr.Martens Canadian Flagship!

If you've shopped Queen West recently, you may have noticed that the iconic Brit brand, Dr.Martens, has finally opened the doors to its Canadian Flagship store this year. This news comes much to the delight of its Toronto fans who no longer have to rely on the limited selection and sizes offered at Brown's and Holt's to satisfy their Doc cravings. It also means the Stiletto Twins shopping list has grown significantly..

The Queen West location is the first store in Canada for the UK based company and fits in perfectly with the trendy and edgy vibe of the neighbourhood. As to what treasures you will find showcased in this space - the store carries the entire Dr.Martens collection, including limited editions and collaborations. Such are the advantages of being an awesome city and having your own flagship!

We spied the limited edition 50th anniversary 1460 and 1461 boots, the Made in England collection and McMartens!

(the Made in England boot - made in one of the original Dr.Martens factories in England!)
(McMartens Tartan.. makes us miss McQueen even more)
(50th anniversary iconic 8 eye 1460 boot - comes in cherry red and black in a Polished Pebble leather exclusive to this range)

Our shopping experience at this store was fantastic: the staff is super pleasant and extremely dedicated to the brand - everyone we spoke to was knowledgeable about the products and showed great appreciation and passion for the shoes. If all of this isn't enough to get you to pay a visit, check out their cash registers which sit on top of an actual piano!

(Our favourite: the more feminine Diva collection - you can't feel the heel and they look amazing! Plus the tread ensures you won't slip even in the slushiest of Toronto days)

Visit Dr.Martens on Queen to play with fashion (or play the piano) and let us know your impressions!

Style Spotting: Coco's Closet Grand Opening

We were delighted to be in the presence of so many different styles at Saturday's grand opening of Coco's Closet, the new Bloor West Village designer consignment boutique. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the ladies (and gent!) for letting us showcase these fantastic outfits!

(seriously needing this Alexander McQueen skull-print scarf! Covet, want, need!)

Events: Coco's Closet Grand Opening

Bloor West Village shopping just got a little more exciting! Coco's Closet, an upscale designer consignment boutique, opened this summer and offers a wide selection of new and gently used designer everything at reasonable prices. We're talking Manolo Blahnik, Gucci, Marc Jacobs.. and everything in between. We attended the grand opening this weekend and walked away with great impressions and (of course) a few purchases of our own.

(some of the label finds at Coco's Closet - Ray Ban, Modern Vintage, Coach, Juicy..)
(Nadia, owner of Coco's Closet, with a Stiletto Twin on either side)

Nadia, the genuinely sweet owner of Coco's Closet, has created a little piece of boutique heaven: the store is well curated, beautifully decorated, and deliciously inviting. The space offers a wide selection of designer pieces without being visually cluttered and greets you with cheeky inspirational quotes at every turn (our favourite: "Anyone who says money can't buy happiness doesn't know where to shop"). This is definitely a store to keep on your style radar.

(Marc Jacobs bag for less than a third of the price! $395)

The grand opening festivities included refreshments, candy, and amazing cupcakes from The Cupcake Kitchen, and - most importantly - face time with premiere stylist Wendy Woods of THE REFINERY. Wendy spent time with every shopper, advising on best silhouettes for different body types and helping to select the perfect fitting consignment treasure at Coco's Closet. We walked away finally having figured out our body shapes, knowing our individual colour palettes, and understanding more about how to dress up our proportions to their "wow" potential.

(Wendy Woods of The Refinery with Coco's Closet owner, Nadia)

We'd like to thank everyone at Coco's Closet for such an amazing time and we will see you again soon!

Easy Style: Cartoons for Grown-Ups

There's nothing like a little Daffy Duck to send you down memory lane, to happy childhoods and carefree days. One might even remember a time when they looked forward to wintertime because snow was so much fun! Here's hoping I can remember that when I am standing at the bus stop and some car speeds by and slushes me from head to toe..

(top, Pull & Bear; zipper detail tights, The Bay; earrings, Over the Rainbow; bangles, Over the Rainbow and Aldo Accessories; shoes, random European find)

This shirt was an impulse buy in Pull & Bear this summer and I regret not buying more from them. The store is filled with a variety of stylish pieces at sweet prices, especially graphic tops. Shoes are a departure from what I normally wear but I really needed a comfortable flat with a thicker sole to walk the streets of Belgrade in..

Getting in touch with my inner child,

Easy Style: Last Call for White

White after Labour Day?  If it's super warm outside - why not! There's been a lot of buzz lately about this old rule - we've done away with not mixing prints this season, so why not toss this one as well? After all, Labour Day's in September only in North America. I wore this a couple of weeks back while the weather was gorgeous, and I love that the outfit reminds me of summer and this season's florals..

(skirt, H&M; floral top, P..S..Fashion - Serbian chain of boutiques; faux pearl multi strand bracelet, Le Chateau; platform wedges, Miss Sixty; cross body bag, Danier)

These gorgeous platform wedges were a vacation Fab Find: beautiful leather and cork from Miss Sixty for an even more beautiful $70. I got the purple cross-body leather bag from Danier at the same sale Marta mentioned in her Sales Spotting post here and I have been wearing it everywhere since then.

White for all seasons,

T

Spotlight: Seraphic Dressing Room Styles

As I browsed through the Seraphic Boutique at the Shop Sundae Shop Socials event, I couldn't help but pick out a few dresses that really caught my eye. I mean, they were so pretty and I can always use another dress, and if they fit really well I can get a treat at the end of this shopping excursion... Plus they were at very affordable prices, most of them ranging from 60-100$ plus 25% off on some red tagged items.

 Dress #1
Dress #2
Dress #3

Unfortunately the day ended with no dress, because as it turns out, my fiance is at times more picky than I am and he did not understand the fun and trendy styles of any of these dresses. (Solution: next time shopping sans my beau).

Making a dress wishlist,

M
